How would Custom Fields work and how can I enable them?

How does Custom Fields work, how would one user come accross it? Is it upon registration? How can I enable them? 


For example: I add a custom field, username and Device: where does one user see this custom field?

Custom fields

We've added ability to create custom fields for topics. Custom fields are typically used to gather more information from an user about the feedback. To setup custom fields click on the "Settings" then select required forum and select "Custom fields" tab. Next we planned to extend custom fields with following options: new fields types like checkbox and combos, editable only by staff option.

Custom fields

I added a custom field for User called "Company". I see that the custom field now shows up when a user views his/her own profile. But is there a way that I (as administrator) can view/search custom User fields?
We have added custom fields information in user profiles bellow user rating.
This information visible for admins only.
